![]() ![]() If I want an updated version for Windows, I have to compile the whole pack on a WinOS. DOS games, however, use DOSbox but this specific program is being actively developed for Linux. ![]() Be it installed through Lutris or Steam, or any other. games running under Wine, which is exactly the environment that its used to run any game that has no compiled Linux version. This translates, usually, as a performance loss on applications such as. The only difference is that Ubuntu get their stuff from Debian's Development repository which has stuff that haven't even been developed properly or tested, which includes everything wrong that comes with such an environment. Even Ubuntu gets its stuff from Debian's repositories. The only thing that DE needs to do is to support the "root" distros. I compiled Wine on my computer, with the necessary stuff to make it run. But doing it this way isn't exactly for the very recently ex-WinOS user. That keeps up and who knows, it might not be just DE fashioning to include cross platform API's.īut saying that Linux is like.1% of the total consumer PC market share? Don't even know if that's big enough to classify as a niche market truth be told.īy hand. Unless something comes along, we'll be riding the DX train for a few more years - saying that, RD2 performs better under Vulkan, industry needs more big hitters like Rockstar to push the API to the fore (Really needs a big publisher with a large portfolio to back it like EA, Activision, Ubi). But these renderers have long shelf lives, and DE haven't even gotten theirs out the door in 2019 (so far). Steve mentioned in the first/second tennocon that after DX11, there may be potential at looking at Vulkan. Since DX is proprietary, it is the principal reason why there is no Mac port neither. Supporting each of the one hundred plus distributions is not an option individually, but maybe something like Steam or flatpack could achieve even that, with some work made by the developers of the distributions.Īs it stands, DE are currently only looking at windows since the new renderer is built from the ground up with DX11 in mind (at least as far as steve has said). ![]() Linux has many distributions with incompatible packages, but supporting Fedora and Ubuntu, or even only one of them, would be enough. I believe they are already working on this. Digital Extremes proved to be a very good Company. ![]()
